2019 Hounds Dinner

The 2019 dinner of

The Hounds of the Baskerville (sic)

Chicago’s original, senior and most singular Sherlockian Society

will be held on October 4, 2019

Mr. Michael F. Whelan, BSI

Mike will be on hand this evening to provide a brief look at the recent move of the Baker Street Irregular archives from Harvard’s Houghton Library to the Lilly Library at Indiana University. Mike was chief negotiator of this move and has been Wiggins (President) of the BSI since 1997—and a Hound since 1967.

Dr. Carlina de la Cova

Hell-hounds, tors, convicts, and bastard children: The anthropology and archaeology of HOUN.

To celebrate The Hounds of the Baskerville (sic), Carlina’s presentation will focus on the story of its namesake and illustrate how Sir Arthur Conan Doyle cleverly uses anthropological themes and methods contemporary with HOUN to create the setting and atmosphere, as well as drive the plot of the story. Dr. De La Cova is Professor of Anthropology at the University of South Carolina.
